Unhappy win xp pro installation problem

Trying to do a clean install of win xp pro from the cd. After the first reboot the system will freeze on the xp screen that has the blue moving dots. What I do not understand is that I have a copy of win 2000 which will install fine. Any help and or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Is it freezing? - How long have you left it installing before saying it's frozen?

And don't take offense to this next question, but, is it a legit CD?

When I say freezing I mean that after it goes through the blue screens which include the file copying and formatting it will come to the first reboot screen and it will shut down, then will come back on and when the main xp screen with those moving blue dots comes up it just stops or freezes up. The dots freeze and that is where it stays. I hope that makes sense. Yes, it is a legit cd.

I have seen it do that and it was looking for the network set-up to load the proper drivers and other things. sometimes it can take a while, and sometimes you just need to reboot the system to get past that point if it hangs, then it will tell you what the hang up was, and sometimes it has a hard time locateing all the proper drivres, and is creating a list of possible errors,
but not always, there may some hardware it don't like too.

most of the time it will install smothely, also the firstmost cause of it doing that will be a possible bad ram stick, it can be fussy on the type of ram that is in the system.

The only things hooked to it are the mouse keyboard and the monitor. The thing I still can not understand is why win 2000 will install and xp won`t.

Post your complete system specs by brand and model.

Is this a name brand computer or a home built?

Any PCI cards installed?
