SOS...win2K freeze
Hi,
I am running win2k and my computer froze randomly quite often. I decided to reinstall win2k. In the middle of reinstalling process, it froze again. Then I forced to shut it down and to restart. Problem 1: When I tried to change some settings and pressed my keyboard, my keyboard is not responding. I saw number lock on keyboard is on (green lihgt). Problem 2: It is related with Problem 1 and when the computer tries to reboot, it asks me if I want to start with Win2K Pro or with Win2K Pro Setup. I wanted to start it with Win2k Pro but my arrow key in the keyboard is not responding. Can someone help me out what is the problem? I am about to replacing a computer motherboard battery. Thanks for help in advance. |

Eliminating the obvious choices:
Are you sure your keyboard is working fine? Is it a USB keyboard? Remember that if it is a PS2 keyboard it is not hotswappable. |

i had that keyboard problem with my pc everynow and then, its a ps/x keyboard, usually i just restart the pc and it fixes the problem. try resetting the keyboard plug into the port in the back of the pc.

my keyboard is PS2 not USB. Keyboard is not working.
What about memory? Is it a potential problem? Or motherboard? Or Hard disk? |

If your keyboard is not working, then try to get a working keyboard in before diagnosing anything else. You never know, you might get a good install with a working keyboard. As I mentioned, if you hotswap a PS2 keyboard, the least of your problems is the keyboard getting spoilt, it might even short out your motherboard.

over the weekend, I found one of my old hard disk which has win98. my computer booted successfuly and keyboard(ps2 type) worked fine. And I concluded that a problme came from a damaged hard disk.
So, I bought a commercially available one, a standard one, which is going to be connected to motherboard. And I inserted a CD which came with the hard-disk. It doesn't seem to be freezed because a cursor keeps blinking. but it gives a message as following, Verifying DMI Pool Data .... Starting Caldera DR-DOS ... (Then, the cursor is bliking...) Any clue? -gunter |

You do not need to use the CD that came with the hard drive. Just boot with the Win2000 CD and setup will partition and format the drive for you.
