If you want to be able to network it, you need the network login. You can install a printer on a 98 box and share it as long as file and print sharing is enabled, XP and 2000 boxes will be able to print to it no problem as long as the workgroup names match, just find it in My Network Places, right click on it, select Connect. 9x and ME boxes can print to it too, same procedure, but right click and select Install.

heyal, here i was just reading about removing the windows logon screen, it can be done thru registry entry by changing the value. i dont believe you can have it hold your password to it. so if your networked to other computers u MUST enter the logon user name [is usually already entered] and the password in order to connect to your home network. you can still connect to the internet but not the home network. installing a printer if you want to share win98 printer with the XP systems then you have to install the printer and printer drivers on the XP systems using the manufacturers drivers. the drivers needing to be installed some say to install both 98 version as well as the xp version to gain compatibility. because your trying to make the xp system think or act as if its physically connected to your 98 printer. remember too that if your 98 pc is not on and not logged in your xp systems can't use your printer. since the systems are individual pc's adding the printer as a stand alone for the 98 pc should be no problem. good luck, i hope i helped. |
