Word 2003 closes by itself

I have Windows XP SP2, office 2003. All of office updates and windows updates.

I also have the corporate version of Symantec anti-virus, version 9.

If the application, word, is left open when the document has been closed, word will close by itself after a random amount of time (1-2 hours).

Word will remain open if there is a document open, or even a new blank one.

I have searched as much of the Internet's forums as I could through google, and no one has quite this peculiar of problem. Some people say there is a conflict with Norton and word. (Note this problem also happened with this user's older computer which had XP and office XP rather than 03).

Any ideas on how to stop it from closing on its own?

More information:

It takes less than an hour to close on its own from the time the document is closed.

Also, she has a shared printer. There is a java application (to connect to university database) that uses that printer to print. Whenever that application is open, is when word closes by itself.

So I think it has something to do with the shared printer and java application!?
