I cannot upgrade to XP Pro or corporate.
I apologize if there's already been a 1,000 threads like this. But - All I want to do is upgrade my OS. But after the upgrade CD has gotten thru with installing the basic windows files, I'm informed that it cannot continue because the prog can't read my boot drive. I do not want to back up 60+gigs of info just now to do a clean install, I just want to upgrade. I have uninstalled a lot of my customizing apps, undone custom bootscreens and the like, no go. I tried using the CD I originally formatted the 'puter with (XP Home). I'm presently in school getting a "microcomputer specialist" degree, but this has me stumped. Oh, system specs - Dell XPS B1000, PIII 1Ghz, 512mb rambus RAM, 80gb drive, a CD/DVD-RW, and a faster CD drive (tried both).

my original XP home disk is factory, the other two are copies but work fine on other machines. And of course the keys are valid, also I made sure my internet connection was disabled before i installed. Read into that what you will. But i know for a fact that all these CD's work fine - the problem is my machine, and I'm sure it's a residual effect of all the tweaking I've done. No amount of system restoring will fix it. Oh, and I also checked my BIOS to make sure there was no boot sector protection active.

We cannot provide support for pirated copies of software. You state your original XP Home is factory while the disks you are attempting to use for the upgrade are copies. Forum Rules prohibit further discussion. Thread closed.
