Microsoft Disables Updates For Pirated XP Keys..

I am surprised no one else posted this earlier...

Microsoft has disabled updates on machines running pirated copies of XP...

Not that anyone here uses pirated keys.... I just thought it was an interesting tidbit of info..

Is the expletive concerning the fact that they are trying to protect their business interests/property rights or that they are using the tool called Windows Genuine Advantage?

i'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time before the pirates come up with a way of getting around this. It's human nature what ever one person does there's always someone to come along and better it or undo it. Just my little input on the topic

Exactly. Everytime a new protection system comes along or a new way to end piracy, there will always be someone there to bypass it. WPA was supposed to prevent piracy on Windows XP, and sure it's stopped some, but there are still tons of pirated copies out there. I believe that there have been other attempts to stop people using pirated copies of the OS from updating, but again, none of them have worked for very long. Game companies come up with different disc protection schemes, and the warez groups still crack them and release the games. This may sound a bit odd, but I think it's interesting to see the work that both sides do. Meaning the people who try to keep the products from being pirated and those that work to break those protections.
