settings reset to default upon relog/restart

my icons, my quick launches, my default browser, settings, etc. all reset to default, just as if it was my first login in that account, everytime i relog/restart. this does not happens on administrative accounts however. can anyone pinpoint the source of this annoyance?

XP is based on Win2K so you shouldn't have any problems.
