disabling pop up adds--
using win xp/internext explorer...is there a way to avoid receiving obnoxious pop up adds when visting various web sites?
could this be done by disabling receipt of active x controls in "tools" section of IE etc? tx |

The XP SP2 update has a pop-up blocker, it no longer works very well (to be fair neither does the mozilla blocker released at the same time, it's a contest after- all).
If you really want to defeat pop-ups you have to switch to Firefox and download two extensions : Pop-ups must die and Adblock. Together they will do the job ( with some effort on your part.). I keep IE, not like you can really get rid of it, for the few sites I use that need it. It really annoys me that Movielink is one of them but them's the breaks. The problem with disabling ActiveX across the board in IE is that so much still depends on it that web surfing will become a major chore unless you're willing to go through all the sites you usually visit and enable the approved ones and disable the others (Know it now that some slime hacker will find away around this but that's not just an IE problem).
