stop error

Good day folks...Seems I have another problem I need the great minds of this fine forum to solve for me once again...
This is what I have,**I did a nortons update this morning and rebooted and I get this blue screen (stop error-stop 0x0000001E),wont boot any furher.
I was told to go into safe mode and uninstall NOTONS,So I go to safe mode and now I get windows installer cant be accessed,and it wont let me remove NORTONS or any thing else,needless to say I need HELP...TIA GaryD

I want to thankyou OB1 but the suggestion you refered didn't work..I did the stuff they suggested but still get the stop error,and cant remove NAV...

Norton cannot be uninstalled in safe mode, unfortunately. It requires the Windows Installer service, which will not run in safe mode. Best bet to get it into normal mode is go safe mode, copy msconfig.exe from an XP machine into c:\winnt, run it, and disable the whole startup tab.

glc...I did that,I have (mscofig.exe) already installed, but still I got the stop error that would not let me load into windows,,I broke down and took my box to my trusted computer repair guy in town,hopfully he will be able to get it back up and running,,,Thank you guys for all the help...GaryD.
