Help with 0x000000d1

When I turn my computer on, sometimes I get a Blue Screen after the POST saying -

0x000000d1 (0x1900006, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf9b730c5)

I don't know how to find out what the cause is by looking at the numbers.

I have looked on the Microsoft site and 0x000000D1 is a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

They say it can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name (Which I can't see anywhere), disable, remove, rename or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error.

Does Replacing/Updating all drivers solve the problem?

Yes, it's a driver trying to use memory that the kernel needs... or something like that (I think).

So the golden question is... what did you change/upgrade/update before this started happening? Which drivers do you update often? Are all of them up to date right now?

I did put in a new 512Mb RAM end of last year, but had to take it out because that was causing distortion lines on the screen. But I have a different problem altogether with the RAM/Power supply causing the computer to restart many times on startup.
I also got a new hard drive cos' the old one died on me. Its a 2 and a half year old computer.
AMD ATHLON XP 2000+

Which drivers do you update often? I don't update drivers often.
Are all of them up to date right now? Not up to date.

So I will update them through the device manager, and telling them to look for updated drivers on the Internet. Where might I find BIOS updates, and how do I do it? I have never updated BIOS before.

I also have other BSOD's including -

7F
0A
9F
8E
FE

I also recently had a 0x0"""""24 which is a problem with the NTFS file, but I ran a Chkdsk /f and that solved that one.

A BIOS update shouldn't be necessary.. this is a windows problem.

If you have a motherboard with a VIA chipset, download the latest "4 in 1" drivers off the internet. Also update graphics card drivers.

You could go nuts and do other things like modem/sound/network card and basically anything else you have in there, but chipset and graphics card drivers are the ones to go for first.

Also run a little program called memtest86+... it'll check your ram for you to make sure it is not faulty. Give it a good 3-5 hours or as long as you can (leave it on overnight is best).

Just out of interest, what PSU do you have now?

I am on my computer upstairs now, havent turned it on for a week, got it going after 10 resets.

I ran that Mentest86 before, I left it running one day for 10 hours or so, it found nothing, and my PSU is a 300W I think, I rang Novatech one day last month and the technicain told me I could try a 400W or maybe even a 450W and a 333Mhz 512MB RAM module.

Because I have a 2100Mhz 256MB ram.

What make/model is the PSU? A 350W Fortron is a whole lot more powerful than a 350W Q-tec... The wattage rating really doesn't mean a whole lot...

How does one find out that information, besides taking the cover off and trying to look for the name somewhere? or can I find it out somewhere on Windows?

You'll have to take the side-cover off and have a look inside your PC, I'm afraid. It should be stated on a sticker on the PSU itself. There is no way to find this out through windows...

Have you updated those drivers yet?
