open folders in same window disabled

hi everyone

my problem is that windows just will not let me open folders in the same window.
i have chosen the option in folders' options but every time i click on a folder a new window with the explorer part on the right opens.

imust admit i've been messing up with the files' types options and changed the actions ( i deleted 'open' by mistake and replaced it by 'explore'). anyway, even if the explorer part on the right might be a consequence of those mistakes, i wonder if the 'open in same window' depend on that...

so is there a way to get folders settings to default? or what is the program corresponding to the open command, then i can put it back in ? or how can i switch the 'open i same window' settings back on?

thax a lot

I'd consider a system restore.
