i killed it....my pc is dead
Heres my story....(running windows xp pro, sp1 i think, not sure and cannot check since its dead...)
Everything was hunky dorey until I tried to update a program. Insignificant which one, but it did not work and in fact caused the program to no longer work at all. (it was just a minor graphic program off the web) So I tried to use my good old system restore. I chose a point merely two days ago and hit restore. Upon the reboot, thats when all hell broke loose. My computer got to the windows splash screen and then just loops back to the start up bios screen over and over. I tried to hit F8 and get into the start menu, which worked fine but every blasted choice I make, including the one for using the last known good config, does the exact same thing. I tried every one of them too. So I get out my windows cd and try booting from there and go into the recovery program, get to me command prompt and all, run chkdsk, with the repair switch, which tells me it fixed one or more errors. Problem still exists. I tried "sfc" and it says it does not know what i mean. Admittedly I am NOT a DOS guru and do not know which commands DOS now accepts these days. Some of the older commands I knew were unknown to my system. Now my very last attempt after this chkdsk was to restart and go into start menu and attempt to get into safe mode again. This time, my screen started to list all the .sys files that it was loading and then just stopped. Literally. The machine made noises that it was working and the red hard drive lite stayed on but the screen just remained as is, for like 10 minutes then i gave up and pulled the power plug.....not the best thing to do i know but I was getting po'd by that time..... ANy guidance from the masters???? PLEASE... |

do a repaire install of xp, it will reinstall xp and not change any of your files or programs, but you will need to do a reinstall of any service packe and updates you had,
I hope you did not get a virous with that file you downloaded from the internet, a lot of them are infected. if you did then you will need to run a virous scan from the dos prompt too |

a repair install......meaning when i get the choice to install xp or to go to recovery console or to quit, when booting off cd, I choose to install??? Won't that overwrite everything i already have??
how do i run virus scan from command prompt ? Any commands you can give me to try would be great.... But i am almost afraid to plug pc back in, since i killed power while it was working....yikes |

yes
no do not go to the repaire console do the install and it will then ask you how you want to do it full or repaire. no it will not change any of your files or software as long as you choose the repaire install. if you choose the full install, yes you will loose everything you had on it. |

no - ittold me to remove any floppys but i guess i am dumb cause i left the cd there...am i a twit?
heres some more info. will any of this info help anyone to help me? i went back into where i get the command prompt off the cd, and typed in "type ntbtlog.txt" Cripes that is one large file..... anyways I went wayyyyy down to the ends of it and heres what I noticed... at the point when my problems began, the log of drivers being loaded stopped on "atinrvxx.sys" the absolue most recent log showed that driver "rtkhdaud.sys" did not load - it showed it not loading liek 13 times, then at the end it showed it loaded. just after that loaded the last entry of drivers that did load was "cdfs.sys" does that help at all - in any way?? |
