Moving Favorites to Different Folder
I am using Windows XP SP2. I have My Documents on a large hard drive (F) which is separate from the OS on my C-Drive. I plan to move from Netscape (a die hard who cannot hang on any longer!) to Outlook and IE. I found a SW program called Transend that will convert my Netscape e-mail folders to Outlook folders (.pst format). I want to have my Outlook system look for my mail folders on the F Drive. Also, I want to store my internet Favorites on the F Drive. I was able to find a document on Microsoft explaining how to have My Documents in a different location than the default. I cannot find anything that explains how to have the e-mail folders and internet favorites in a folder (e.g. My Documents) that differs from the default settings.
Can anyone give me some help here?? Thanks in advance .... |

I fear I may have "stumped the panel" OR asked a stupid question. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where else I can look OR is not possible to change the location of Favorites?
Thanks in advance ... |

For favorites, start\run\regedit\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
User Shell Folders] Find the favorites folder and edit to the directory you want. I`ve never done this so make a back up of your favorites from the default directory and make a back up of the reg key so you can reverse it. |

Actually, I think there's an easier method. Right click on the Start and click Explore to open Windows Explorer. In the left panel locate your My Favorites folder under Documents and Settings. Now locate the destination folder you want to move to and expose it by using the appropriate + signs. Now RIGHT click and hold on the My Favorites and drag My Favorites to your desired destination. Drop it on the destination folder and a pop up will appear. Select "Move here" and you're all set. The same method works for putting My Documents, My Music, and/or My Pictures on separate partitions or drives to keep your personal files off the Operating System partition. This works with XP. I haven't tried it with any other OS though.

Outlook Express will let you relocate. It's under Tools somewhere. The Address Book requires a regedit, along with moving it.

I checked using Outlook and the *pst file can also be moved the way Panama Red explained.
BTW...it is much simpler than my reg hack..

At 3.5GB what are easy files to move from Documets & Settings Folder?
I have 3,5 GB under Documents & Settings. I had relocated My Documents to drive F some time ago, but apparently a lot is either left in duplicate or other users boxes. Which files or folders can I easily move from D&S without registry hacks or complicated processes? What could possibly take up so much space? How do I easily find and transfer those files?

The previous suggestion to edit the Registry was necessary for me to move the Favorites (drag & drop for Favorites did not work). The edit was very easy and straightforward. I suspect you can do the same for the D&S by finding the applications in the registry and changing the directory settings.

Drag and Drop Favorites worked fine when I tried it. Ya gotta remember to RIGHT click and drag, not left click. (Unless you're a southpaw of course!)
