Windows - Two problems; I really need help....

Ok, I really haven't a clue as to why my system has trouble shutting down. I've done virus scan after virus scan and it doesn't pick anything up. Spy Bot and AD-Aware don't pick anything up......

The problem is when I tell it to shut down it goes throught the normal processes. Right after the program icons and task bar dissapear it just stops.....Other times an error will come up saying dwwin.exe saying something I cannot catch before it flashes off.....

Another problem is that when I try to do Windows updates, it says I'm running a Mac OS.....Any suggestions on that one?

This is the Dr. Watson Utility that detects info about your system and program failures in a log. Go to Start>Run, type drwtsn32.exe to open Dr. Watson to read the log. Report back to let us know what help you may or may not need.

You need to run windows updates with IE, and not any alternative browsers.

Uninstall Norton, McAffee and DrWatson AV and security packages, and install AVG instead: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/71/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

I see nothing under Application Errors, if that's all you wanted me to look at.

Edit: I'm using IE, though could the MSN tabbed browsing option be affecting it? As for the Dr Watson thing, I don't know what packages it's in....I didn't even know I had the program untill a day or two ago....

As for AVG, why? I know it's and anti virus program but, is it really better?

dude, i have the same problem ((when i shut down it just stops, thought im using OS ME, and i never got that error that you got "dwwin.exe")) but to get back to the point, i think its just a problem in your shutdown process, or maybe jut maybe a program.

But im very sure that AV's aren't the problem

Beside for your AV, yes McAfee and Nortern takes alot of juice on your pc and they are sertenly not the best, but it still protects your pc. I think the best AV would be AVG (free) or NOD32(have to pay). anyways good luck with your problem
