Clear type

i read the pcmech type of the day a couple of days ago and changed my settings from standard to clear type in the advanced tab under display. i love the difference and my question is why clear type isn't the standard for machines since it seems so much crisper.

Because most machines still use CRT displays. Read about Microsoft typography here: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/...ClearType.mspx

Why should it be ? Whoever likes ClearType can enable it anyway. I, for example, don't like it at all. ClearType doesn't make it crisper, it makes it blurrier. Yep, that's how it works.
I personally would hate it if ClearType was the standard if you couldn't turn it off.
