Can't connect to the internet through router
Windows XP, linksys router, motorola surfboard cable modem
I recently installed the update for zone alarm and scanned the computer for spyware, taking the recommended actions. When I rebooted I could no longer access the internet. I uninstalled zone alarm to see if it was the problem, but I still can't get on the internet. I can't even access my router configuration from that computer. Another computer on the network went through the same zonealarm upgrade and is still working fine. The computer that can't connect to the internet can ping its own static ip, the router, the loop at 127.0.0.1, other computers connected through the router, and the cable modem. I can't ping any web addresses. How can I ping the router but not get to the configuration page? Anyways, both of the computers have the same DNS/alternate DNS servers and static ips. If I switch the configuration on the computer to get an ip automatically, a popup icon on the taskbar states that the network card has limited or no connectivity and I can't renew my dhcp after refreshing through ipconfig. Anyone have any ideas to get that computer back to the internet? Could the spyware blocker have deleted an essential service? Last edited by rjb03; 08-05-2005 at 08:09 PM. |

Spyware blocker may have altered/deleted a necessary registry item. Try this.

Alright! Thanks for the quick reply. It worked like a charm. I knew something must've been deleted that shouldn't have as I was sure all my settings were right. Luckily I could still map a network drive as my floppy drive wouldn't read the disk... Thanks.
