RPC Server is unavailable? XP

i was trying to run the Windows Disk Manager under Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management.

when i click on Disk Management, the message: RPC Server is Unavailable appears. it also says Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager Service in the bottom toolbar.

i checked my services, and Local Disk Manager is started.

in addition, i also can't get Disk Defragmenter to work...

any solutions?

Have you scanned recently for Spyware (Spybot), Adware (Adaware), viruses and trojans (Trendmicro's Housecall online scan)? Sure sounds like you have some resident nasties.

Hopefully, you "fixed" all those found entries? Do the scan at Trendmicro.com too.

oh to heck with it -- reinstalled the OS and everything is fine now LOL

looks like microsoft has encountered this problem, but didn't have a clearcut solution.
