RPC Server is unavailable? XP
i was trying to run the Windows Disk Manager under Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management.
when i click on Disk Management, the message: RPC Server is Unavailable appears. it also says Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager Service in the bottom toolbar. i checked my services, and Local Disk Manager is started. in addition, i also can't get Disk Defragmenter to work... any solutions? |

Have you scanned recently for Spyware (Spybot), Adware (Adaware), viruses and trojans (Trendmicro's Housecall online scan)? Sure sounds like you have some resident nasties.

okay -- i scanned using both spybot and adaware... got some results:
  i then tried to get to Disk Manager again, but still the same message... |

Hopefully, you "fixed" all those found entries? Do the scan at Trendmicro.com too.

oh to heck with it -- reinstalled the OS and everything is fine now
LOLlooks like microsoft has encountered this problem, but didn't have a clearcut solution.
