Unhappy 2 monitors connected at different times

I first posted this in another forum thinking that I was further along then I actually was. So, I will start at the very beginning.

How in Windows 2000 can I set up a second monitor? This is so that when I disconnect my primary monitor (VGA CRT) and connect my secondary display (65" rear projection) the OS will recoginze this change.

Right now no matter which one I am connected to it always thinks that it is connected to 1. How do I activate (connect?) it within the software to do this?

I am using a ATI AIW 9800 pro card and there must be some way to do this. I would really like to keep both connected at the same time but with one DVI connector and one S-video connector my options are limited.

Thanks.

I might be reading your question wrong, but if your second monitor is VGA, you could buy a DVI-to-VGA adapter and keep both monitors connected at the same time.

I have a DVI to VGA adapter. My card has only one DVI port. That is one problem while configuting the software is the other.

I have attached a picture of my card. I am currently using a DVI to VGA adaptor for my CRT monitor. When I want to game I connect up my big screen to the video card via DVI. Unfortunatly, the settings are off a bit. So, hence the need for two profiles.

What about putting a second video card into my machine? Would that really make the set-up hard? That way I could keep both connected at once.
