XP install problem.
Hello guys!
I have recently purchased a bran new copy of XP pro, here is the exact same item i have purchased: XP pro w/sp2 from NewEgg.com Now when i tried to install this onto my computer it hangs when there's that scrolling blue bar at the bottom of "Windows XP pro." It just freezes right there and i have no activity on my harddrive at all. Now am i the idiot that's missing something here or is there a possible chance that this copy is bad? I don't want to exchange this until i know for sure i'm doing everything right so i don't waste anybody else's time. The harddrive i'm trying to install is a WesternDigital 120GB SATA. RAM Corsair 2.5CAS 512MB x4 P4 2.8E Mobo: Intel D875PBZ I also formatted the hard drive once through another computer using the NTFS format and another time when booting from the CD. I also own another copy of XP and it loads it up fine. What can be causing this? Thanks in advance for any help i'll get. theyosh

I have not had a faulty XP/XP Pro install disk before but this sounds a bit like you could have one if the above is the case. Are you saying it hangs in the beginning of the install, during the install, or at the end of the install? I am not sure what you meant about formatting from another PC, you installed XP on the hard drive whilst it was in the intended computer it would be living in right?... not on another PC then you've tried to swap the drive back over after the install was complete??.. sorry, I just need to ask the question. If you haven't done already, you should try to format and install XP on the HDD in the PC it will be intended for, just change your drive boot sequence in BIOS to recognise the CDROM as the first boot device, and do it all using the XP CD. Okay basically the install goes well until it reboots itself to start windows and then when you see the blue scrolling bar when the "windows XP" sign appears with the black background it just hangs. The scrolling bar just stops and that's it.
I have 2 other systems in my home. I have a copy of XP pro with sp1, and with that cd it installs fine and works the way it's suppose to. But unfortunately that cd is for my other computer so i can't use it for this one. I even connected my harddrive to one of my systems that are in working order to reformat the harddrive for my new system. I don't want to waste NewEgg's time by asking for an exchange if i'm the idiot that's doing something wrong. theyosh |
