XP Startup
Hi Guys,
I am running XP Home Edition on my Medion 320 laptop. My brother borrowed the computer over the weekend and in that time had some problems. He put the Windows XP setup CD in, with the intention of formating the drive. He since fixed the problems and so removed the CD and did not proceed with the format. Since then, everytime I boot up the computer, I get a screen, asking wether I want to load Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP setup. I have 5 seconds to chose which option and the default option is to load setup, meaning I can't just turn the computer on and leave it. Is there any way that I could possibly cure this problem and get the computer to boot straight into XP Home Edition without asking me if I want to boot into Setup? Thanks in advance, John |

Give this a try...
Start - Control Panel - System... click the Advanced tab and click on Settings under Startup and Recovery. There should be options there to change relating to startup countdowns. Hopefully this is what you're looking for. By the way... welcome to PC Mech! Stryker

Go to Control Panel > System applet > Advanced tab > In the Startup and Recovery section click the Settings button. Drop the list down to XP Home option and click OK.
Reboot and verify that this time your default selection is XP Home and that all is well. If everything is ok proceed with this... Now go back to the Control Panel > System applet > Advanced tab > Settings for Startup and Recovery .. click the EDIT button Under the section of [operating systems] delete the entite line that corresponds to XP Home setup. If you have any doubts, paste the entire contents of the file (boot.ini) and we can verify the entire line for u. Save after making changes and press OK through the rest of the dialog boxes |
