Hey, Anyone ever seen "Catastrophic Error" when trying to open a Group Policy from a OU container?
Was testing this software installation through GPO, I was in the GPO editor, right clicked the gpo i was working on and clicked "New Window from Here", Eventually got back to the full editor window and exited. When i went back to users and computers and went to properties of one of the o.u's to open the group policy i am getting this Catastrophic error - once i click OK i get into the editor. This message is really unnerving anyone get any ideas why this is comming up/how to get rid of it?

Would a reboot of the server sort it?

What do the log files say? They usually give the best indication of the problem. I haven't run into the problem on mine.

Where may i find these log files?
I had a look in the event viewer but nothing!!

Event viewer is what I meant. Are you saying that there was a catrosphoic error and nothing is showing in the event viewer. Are all of the updates applied? Is SP1 applied? Can you duplicate the error every time?

Yea, i was in the event view and looked at all the warnings and information nothing that mentioned a "cata... error". I get this catastrophic error "prompting me" when trying to access the gpo mgmt console from the properties of the O.U. in users and computers.

Now, when this error\prompt comes up it allows me to click "ok" and then it lets me into the gpo! Its just a very strange error.

I had placed and removed a few successive gpo's on computer containers and user ou's.

Odd that you have nothing in the logs. You might check over here. The forum is run by Mark Minasi who has several books on 2k & 2k3 server. I couldn't find much info on it.
