Need to eliminate (preference button?) at bootup
I am trying to save time when my computer boots up. When booting there is a button I have to select so that my desktop has my personal preferences. I then have to wait about a minute for my desktop to pop up. How do I eliminate this step? My other computer does not have this so I know its possible. I am the only one who uses my computer so there is no need for a user preference setting.
My other reason is that I run Folding@Home and sometimes my computer reboots on its own (no idea why)..and when it boots back up and I am not there, that button is back without Folding@Home running in the background. Thanks!

Control Panel > User Accounts.
If you're listed as both a user and as the admin. then just delete the user account. You also have the option of unchecking the Welcom Screen box.

tried it..no success
Pam,
Under deleting your own account: It said some crazy thing about having to have another administrator if I wanted to eliminate the first administrator? It does not seem to have any info about simply shutting it off or automaticly bypassing the button. Also where is the checkbox for turning off the welcome sign? Feeling clueless.. I think I am listed as the administrator but I am not sure. I don't remember anything about that when I loaded the OS. Thanks Last edited by David M; 08-11-2005 at 03:26 PM. |

I was just looking at the screen in User Account and mine is set-up with one administrator, me, and the guest account, disabled just now.
When you look at the screen do you see your name and computer administrator underneath it? |

Where exactly is the button you are referring to? When you start your computer, at what point are you prompted to make your choice? In other words, explain exactly what happens up to that point.

Digital,
It's the last screen you see before the desktop comes up when you are booting. The screen says "Windows XP To begin, click your user name. My user name is "owner" After I click the "owner" button, it says "Loading your personal settings" Pam, Under the owner button at Control Panel/User accounts, under the "owner" button is says "Computer administrator" This must mean I am the computer administrator and have the power to stop that screen from coming up?...somehow Last edited by David M; 08-12-2005 at 12:01 AM. |

No problem.
Bring up the User Accounts window on your pc. Then use the PrtSc/SysRq key on your keyboard. That sends the pic to the clip board. Open paint, it's in Accessories in the Start menu along with word pad and all the other basic windows programs, and hit copy in Edit. edit :Now you need to save the file. You want to save the pic as a jpg,... etc., image so it will fit the PCMech size limit. There's a drop down menu that gives you choices. Name it something you'll recognize before you hit save (how about "screenshot"?). That done use the post reply button on the thread and if you scroll down you'll see the attach file box. Hit manage and browse to the pic you've saved, it should be in My Pictures, and highlight it and hit open. It will turn up in the browse box. Hit upload and you should be home free.

What you`re seeing is the Welcome Screen. When you start click start\control panel\user accounts. Select "change the way users log on\off". Clear "show welcome screen".
