Windows XP loads forever
Yo, I came back from out of town to a broken PC, I asked the people who were using it while I was away what happened but they haven't a clue. It will get to the Windows XP logo where the blue bar is moving across the screen but it won't get past there, it will just keep loading until about fifteen minutes later then it will restart. I tried the "Last known good configuration" option but it didn't work. I can get into Safe Mode as an administrator but if I try to log into Safe Mode as the user name I always use I'll get a blue screen with an error message which says "A problem has occured and Windows has shut down," the rest is hard to read because the computer restarts really quick. I tried doing a system restore in Safe Mode but it still didn't fix it. It's the computer in my sig and it's on Windows XP Home Service Pack 2. Panama Red suggested I turn off Auto Restart but I can't figure out how to do that, I checked the BIOS but couldn't find anything.
Any info/feedback is appreciated, thanks. |

Try to disable automatic restart this way: When in SAFE MODE right click on my computer > properties > advanced tab > startup and recovery (click on settings buton) > then uncheck box by automatic restart under system failure title!!!
Then you will be able to see error message and post that message here!!! As a last resort you can try Repair Windows (if you have original disc) !!!! http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

OK!!!
This is the error message I get, huzzah!!! "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable any BIOS options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical Information: ***STOP 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8647D5C0, 0x8647D734, 0x805F9F88) Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance." So that's the error message I get, I dunno if this has anything to do with it, but I've been having problems with the onboard audio lately, it will only play certain sounds but some sounds won't play at all. I've tried reinstalling the drivers from both asus.com and from the CD that came with the mobo but it doesn't fix the problem. Maybe I should uninstall those drivers in Safe Mode? |

In safemode go to run in start menu, type msconfig.
When the screen appears ,go to services, you'll see a box with "hide all microsoft services"CHECK this box and click on services, you then have the option to disable all or uncheck the programs you don't want running, start with anti virus software and reboot, keep doing this until you find the offending program, just make sure you check hide microsoft services. |

0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.) One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message. One user, who experienced this on return from Standby mode on Win XP SP2, found the cause was that Windows was installed on a slave drive; compare KB 330100. Quote:

OK I switched the SATA cable to the other connector on the mobo, I switched the SATA cable with another cable, and I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS, but I'm still getting the same problem. That article also says something about connecting another device as a master, such as a another hard disk, CD or DVD drive. Well, I already have a CD RW drive connected as a master. Should I try doing something with that?

Hrmm, this is getting aggravating. I think I'm just gunna reinstall Windows. I mean even if I get the computer up and running the sound will probably still be messed up. At least I can get into Safe Mode to backup all the stuff I need.

OK I tried the repair install and if I leave the CD in the drive I will get the BSOD with the error message again but if I take it out the computer will get the the blue screen that says "welcome" but it won't get any further than that.
