How do I burn a few short video clips to a dvd?
Hi,
My friend has asked me to burn a few short, compressed movie clips onto a DVD so that it is playable in a normal DVD player. I have access to the DVD burner and a disc. What software do I need to put these onto a DVD? I don't care if theres no fancy stuff like a menu on the DVD, just need a normal player to play it. The movies are .wmv and .mpg. I don't think theres any .avi ones. Thanks for any help. |

This would seem like an easy thing to do, wouldn't it?
Unfortunately, that's not necessarily the case. DVD 'files' have to be MPEG-4 complaint, which means a lengthy and time consuming conversion process for your files. Get yourself over to www.doom9.org, and click on guides. This site has bunch of guides to doing various conversions and getting files to DVD. It also links to the necessary (free) software. Despite my trawlings, I haven't yet found a free, 'multi-tool' piece of software that can do these sorts of things. Freakitchen

you can author a disk with Nero, it'll handle the conversion to mpeg2 (DVD video format) for you. Mpeg 4 right now is not for DVD but h.264 mpeg (mp4) has been adopted for HD DVD but won't affect you yet.

If you have access to a DVD burner then most likely the installed software will do the trick. I've never used it, but Windows Movie Maker should do the trick, too, at least for basic movies.
(Freakitchen: It's probably a typo, but DVD files are Not MPEG-4's. That's a different animal and most all setup players are not compatible with that format.) |

Just downloading Nero now, hopefully it can do it. I've only got 1 DVD, lets hope I don't waste it.
