fqpissed ME Taking a long time to display CTL Panel

My Win ME pc has had quite a lot of sw installed since new, and some windows are now taking a long time to display, eg. when I request Control Panel, it is 20-30 secs before all the icons appear within the Ctl Panel form.

(I have a PIII 733mhz with 128mb ram and 40gb disk)

Is there a simple fix to speed this up?

When is the last time you did a defrag on your system? Usually when you install and uninstall programs you invariably end up with a lot of fragmentation on your drive. This in turn causes problem like what you're discribing, especially on large capacity drives such as yours.

I Did a DeFrag 2 weeks ago

Thanks for your reply GeneC.

I did a Defrag about 2 weeks ago. My son had installed quite a lot of games, and then uninstalled them so he could install them on a different pc. So that is likely to be a cause of my problems.
Is there anything else you can suggest?
