xp problem
i am a novice at fixing computers, but i recently got one from my sister that puzzles me. i turn it on and it seems to start windows xp, it comes up as normal but then after i see the win xp screen, the screen turns black and i am not able to do anything with it. please help does this mean i need a new hard drive

If you needed a new hard drive, it would'nt load win XP. try loging in the safe mode. if that works, well repost.

You may have a screen resolution set too high for the monitor, try safe mode and then change the resolution to say 800x600 and 256 colors, it will be ugly but then you can boot normally, and change the res back to something better - what monitor are you using? we can check the max settings online....of course this is the quick and dirty no big problem fix, so if it does not work let us know...

okay when i try rebooting in safe mode it stops loading at:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\drivers\agp440.sys it freezes and does nothing else. when i try loading xp pro again dindows setup load is normal, and then when it gets to: setup starting windows it stalls at: searching for previous version of microsoft windows... then it does nothing else again. hope this little bit of info helps.... because i'm stumped...
