I have installed Windows XP Pro on a FAT32 partition.I have an Intel 845 GEBV2 motherboard. After installation I find that the Standby/Hibernate option is disabled in the shutdown dialog and there is no Hibernate option in Power Options setting in the control panel. What could be the reason. The installation was purely successful.
One more question..Does the Lock Computer option come with NTFS partition alone..Because I do not find that option either... I have not installed any sound or video drivers till now.Could that be the reason why the hibernate option is not appearing properly. Please update me. Thanks, Ed. |

If it still does not get ACPI recognized, go to the control panel >power options, and you should see a tab for APM (Advanced power management), enable it. Quote:

Thanks for your suggestion.Even I had the feeling that it could be a BIOS problem. Actually there is no APM tab in Power Options (in Control Panel). So what else could be the reason..and the Winkey+L shortcut does not work either. Is there any other option which i need to cross-check?

Do you have a password established for your login?
Go to Start > Run > control userpasswords and click on "Change the way users log in" Make sure that you check mark both options. (This should not be the case, as you should be able to lock your computer even if you dont have user switching / welcome screen turned on .. but it's worth a try) You could also see if there's some other error .. try going to START > RUN > rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation and see if it does lock? |
