ipconfig/net adapters/win me....need help
My friend has a Windows ME machine and when you type ipconfig it returns 3 adapters: adapter 0, 1, 2. He only has one ethernet card. Then when you type ipconfig /release_all, adapters 1 and 2 go to zero, but adapter 0 stays with the same ip address. He uses DSL and hasn't been able to connect. I don't understand why there are 3 adapters and why you can't release the first one.
Thanks. |

Name the adapters, please. One should be the Ethernet, one should be PPP, and the 3rd is probably a WAN miniport? If any of them start with 169.254.x.x, it won't release/renew, this is an autoconfiguration IP. DSL with a PPPoE connection manager will be using that, not the Ethernet. Instead of ipconfig, run winipcfg, this will give you a more graphical display.
