I just restored a Dell computer w/ it's restoration CD, along with a full formatting of the hard drive. I would figure that everything would be great, but I've encountered something that's nothing more than an annoyance really, but I want to see if I can get rid of it.
Every time I boot the computer, it has me select the operating system to load. Now if it had two or more operating systems, I would understand, but like I said, I just formatted the disk and re-installed windows. It has me choose between Windows XP Home and... Windows XP Home! It gives me 25 seconds to reply. I can just leave it as-is and it'll load windows after the 25 seconds, but really, come on, who wants to wait? Anyway, if someone wants to tell me how I can get rid of the second "Windows XP Home" or at least how to reduce the 25 seconds to 1 second, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Under computer management, storage, diskmanagement, does it show more than one partition with something like "healthy (system)"?

I'm not sure where you mean by computer management. But when I formatted the disk it had two partitions, which I deleted. It should only have one.

Try this, start, run, type "msconfig", then click on the boot.ini tab, then under operating systems, select which one you want to make as you boot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this should eliminate the dual boot and you won't get prompted to select from which OS you want to boot. |
