I have a problem using the search on my pc, when i got to start and search and files and folders nothing happens.. i just see an hourglass for like 2 seconds but nothing happens... if i click on the search feature on the toolbar in windows explorer the window open freezes and i get this:
the strange thing though is when i click search in IE it works! all i have to do is click search this computer for files and i can search as normal, anybody know what to do? |

Did this just start?
Check your security settings in Control Panel and check Tools in Windows Explorer. You may have inadvertently locked yourself out. Also scan your computer for malware. Some malware, that does lock you out of Windows Explorer, will leave search in IE functioning. So make sure you didn't pick up anything.

In that case it's your settings.
Data Execution Prevention is a function of the Security Center in conjunction with the processor to prevent malware from running on your computer. It also has a rep for being flaky. You've got things enabled you don't know about especially if you were having the same problem with a previous hard drive. I think it has to be disabled in the bios but I'm not sure about that. Please post your specs and, if it's an OEM computer, the make and model. In any case dig out the manual so we can find and disable it. That will let you get into Windows Explorer. Just a question though : Are you the Administrator on that computer? |
