HDD Problems
I have 2 hdds and both have an os on them.. one had XP and the other had ME.. the one that I used to boot was the one with XP... well I recently changed my board and I only reformatted the one with XP and put on XPsp2... the other since I wasn't booting from it I left as is as my drive d cause I has most of my stuff on it was workin fine for like a month now... last week I was out and my sis called me and told me that she was having problems getting some pics she had on it.. when i came home and i tried to get into the d drive it kept telling me that the disk was not formatted and asking me if i wanted to format yes/no?
I put it down to a buggy os.. so i took another hdd and formatted, put xp on it and put it as my master and booted from it and i got the same thing when i tried to acess the d drive.. even when i boot from an XP cd it reads that drive as completly empty. The weirdest thing of all though is that I can boot from it! and go into safe mode (since its not formatted for this system) and everthing is still on it! and i cant burn off the stuff cause im in safe mode.. all my stuff is on that drive.. everything that I've ever downloaded in the past 2 years is on that drive! Anybody knows how I can get back my stuff safely? since I'm not too sure about the data recovery software out there. |

When you replace a M/B and your drive is win98 or ME you have to delete the ENUM registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum registry key). After deleting which can be done in safemode, reboot and the OS will redetect all the new hardware thats on your board, and in doing do recreate the ENUM key entry.
