splat LOCKED OUT of my own WinXP... help

Recently built pc. Installed WinXP... after couple weeks decided to get rid of my name on the start screen and in Windows infinite wisdom to keep me out of my own machine, NOW, I can't get into it because there is no @&#% name to click on. Even when I tried shutting it off XP informed me that OTHERS were using the machine and was I sure I wanted them to possibly lose data?.......... How oh how can this be solved so I can access it rather than finding a hammer?

If this cute little tweak about removing my name had any caveats, I didn't see any. No one operates my computer besides me and I resent XP taking over my thinking about it, no that it does any good. Big Brother XP knows best. People kept telling me how much better XP is... well, it's "help" is not better. I wish I could get rid of all their "helping" efforts. It's as if only nit-wits operate computers, in their opinion. I suppose this is a rant?

Start up in Safe Mode, Log in as Administrator, go to the Control Panel, User Accounts and make any needed changes/additions there.

And if that doesn't work - at the sign on screen do CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. Change the user name to administrator and then sign in.

Thank you so much... both of you. While I'm here, how do I get to safe mode with XP... when hitting F8 (the ole 98 way) earlier, it didn't do it...

Tap the F8 Key repeatedly during the boot up. Sometimes the timing has to be just right.

Whew! Am back on XP machine. Tried finding this thread.. Not sure why I put it in this folder as thought it was in the XP problem area. Oh, well...

Accessed safe mode all right, but while the Administrator file SAID a name could be changed, it couldn't... no place to do it. Could change picture or icon, not name. Maybe because of removing with the tweak. Which was with TweakUI... and it specifically says removing the name will not interfere with logging on. HA!

Actually got into XP with the 3 key twice... it brought up my name and wanted a password, which I'd never furnished in the first place... then with options... voilą! Probably my lack of knowledge is why I could do nothing in the Administrator file.
