If you've got Vista, it's a beta version .. beta 1 to be exact; so if you have it, there should be a reason why you acquired it... to test or to develop on the Vista platform. Windows XP is the latest stable release of a Microsoft OS.

I was not aware that BETA 1 was out already, but really, why do you want to try it? In my view it is destined to have endless problems.

A new piece of code has to start somewhere . And yes, Beta 1 means that it is not ready for a production system; nor is it going to be designed to remain indefinetly on a system. But every major s/w mfger does follow the procedure of releasing alphas and betas because it helps test out for a selective and wider audience; and it allows developers get up to speed with the new platform so that they will be ready with updates or new s/w versions that are going to be compatible when the final version is ready. I wouldn't call it as "endless problems" - as I said, if a beta has been provided to you, then there is a reason to it.

I've been using/testing it for two weeks now. Haven't had any problems "yet."
