Page File usage in XP

I'd like to know why XP uses (on my computer, at least) 220MB+ on my page file when it's just booted? Why doesn't it just use RAM? It's going to be slow, but eventually I'll have 2GB of RAM on my computer, now surely once I have that much memory I can disable the page file?
