Question Slow bootup with wireless enabled

I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it. Gateway 450 laptop with integrated Intel wireless. When the wireless card is enabled, there is a very long delay between the Windows splash screen and the logon box coming up, during which time the screen is black with just the cursor arrow. I know that the delay is caused by the wireless card, because when it is disabled there is no delay.

Updated the wireless with the latest drivers, and all Windows updates are installed, but the delay is still there. Any ideas on what to do to eliminate the delay?

Is Windows or the Intel utility controlling the wireless?

The wireless is controlled by the Intel PROSet utility. I've had problems getting wireless to work properly under Windows control.

Also, the OS is Windows XP Professional, SP2.

Nearly every 3rd party utility I've used for Wireless config seems to slow the boot up down considerably compared to the XP utility. I would suggest trying to use the Wireless 0 Config to try to get it set up if possible.

The strange thing is that it is not consistent. One laptop will boot up without much delay with the wireless enabled. I then ghost that laptop and use that image file on another laptop, and then it is slow again. Just weird.

Well, if that's how it is, then I guess that is how it is. I haven't had much success with the Wireless Zero config in the past on these machines; a couple have become competely hosed due to some problem. Besides, I don't even have a nearby wireless router to test things out on. If it is the PROSet that's making it slow, then I will at least stick with what works.
