Deciding WHICH duplicate files to delete
In recent months I've re-installed Windows XP Pro twice (long story - don't ask !!) I recently ran System Mechanic 5 Pro and discovered that I've got a staggering total of 9,377 duplicate files, taking up 1,546.49 megabytes of disk space.
I wanted to use CTL-C to copy a sample of the list of duplicates (mainly they appear to be system or Windows files, dlls etc,) so I could ask - how do you decide which is the "valid" file and which is the duplicate that can safely be deleted. As you probably know, you can't use CTL-C in System Mechanic and without someone more knowledgeable than me taking a look at my list of duplicates, I'm too scared to start deleting anything. The "paths" for some of the files are so long I'd be here all night trying to type even two or three of them manually. So, does anyone know how you can "copy" the list of duplicates to either something like Notepad or Word for Windows, or whatever, so I can include it in a forum message ? The only idea I've come up with was to use a screen grabber, save the grab, and then try and "insert" it like you can in an email, but then perhaps you can't do that on this forum anyway ? |

There is a program out there called "clean up" that should handle this for you without having to go in and decide what to save and what to delete.
Try here: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0....&search=+Go%21
