task bar icon display
Hello
Certain programs don't display their icon for active windows. The programs in question are Pinnacle MV control and Firefox. They display a "windows" icon. Firefox is in the quick start bar with it's own icon, it's present on the desktop with it's own icon but when it's open it has a "windows" icon. It's not a grave problem but it's annoying and I'd like to fix it. pc setup WINDOWS 98SE 4.10.2222A Ordinateur Authentic AMD AMD Athlon(tm)XP 2700+ RAM 256 Mo Carte graphique NVIDIA GEFORCE2 MX/MX400 Pilote 61.76 Ecran Acer 77e Pilote 05/1999 GRAVEUR DVD ISONIC GRAVEUR TRAXDATA CD R/RW 16X10A 05/1999 DD Primaire IBM 20Mo IDE Type 46 DD Secondaire Maxtor 40Mo IDE Type 80 Pilote 7200tpm securité max test 10457 Ko/s Modem Externe Olitec Speed Com V92 Ready Pilote 03/06/2002 Scanneur CANOSCAN D1230U Pilote 24/03/2001 Carte son SB VIBRA PCI 128 ct4810 Carte d'Aquisition Video Pinnacle STUDIO DC10 Plus Studio 9.1.2 DirectX 9.0b |

Late reply here - I've been away on vacation.
If the problem still persists, have you tried deleting the ShellIconCache file, and letting Windows re-create it at the next reboot? To try this, restart the machine in Safe Mode, find the ShellIconCache file in the C:\Windows folder, and delete it (you might have to make sure that the "show all files" option is selected in Explorer's View/Folder Options/View settings). Windows 98 will rebuild the file on reboot. There is also a Registry tweak (one that I've never tried) that I've seen mentioned here and there. One site that shows it is here http://www.geocities.com/~budallen/9...0From%20Acting -- you have to scroll down to the topic "Registry Tweak to Keep Your Icons From Acting Funny". This tweak theoretically increases the size of the icon cache. Another option is to give the Microsoft "PowerToy" called "TweakUI" a try. It has a section for repairing icons. A quick Google search will find a place to download it from. On the odd chance that malware might be responsible, try an online scanner like HouseCall to double-check your local virus/spyware scanners. HouseCall is at http://housecall.trendmicro.com --And try a run your current anti-malware programs from Safe Mode, just to be sure. Best of luck . . . Gary |
