"Page cannot be displayed" message on two sites only...

HELP! For the past couple of days I have had specific navigation trouble when navigating within Internet Explorer. The browser itself is fine, but when I attempt to go to the website for my financial institution or my personal business website (I am a Partylite consultant) I get "Page cannot be displayed" message. I am able to get to these sites from the second computer we have in our home, but not on the one in my home office. I must use IE for my business website as it is the only browser which currently supports this website. Does anyone know what might have been inadvertantly changed to make this happen?
Also, I am unable to log onto MSN Explorer at all...It times out...could this be related?
FYI...We currently use Norton Internet Security 2005 and Sunbelt Counterspy Software on our systems.

Thanks...BRVB's wife...

"Page cannot be displayed" message on two sites only....

See if any of these will help http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6620-0....sageID=1309035 or you could have some nasties on your computer.
1. Have you ran an online virus scan or run your own antivirus utility?(making sure that it is updated before running)
2. Do you have Ad-aware, Spybot S & D, MS AntiSpyware installed to run a scan?(Also make sure they are updated)
3. You may want to check out the Security Section of this forum and read the stickies for additional help.

Have you tried a different browser like Avant or Firefox?

Angry Fire Arrrgggg!!

This is driving me crazy!

Nothing seems to work, and I've tried a different browser too. One of the two sites(PartyLite.com) in question isn't supported by Firefox though, so that doesn't work.
I reset security settings to default...tried adding the sites to the 'trusted zone', etc. Nothing I do will allow me to get to these web-pages.

This is the most bazzare computer problem I've ever come accross. TWO sites that I desperately need to get to daily, I cannot access !!

Can I try a IE 'repair' or something? I've heard thats in there somewhere.

How in the world can I get my browser to get to these sites???

Help!!

I didn't hear any response as to whether you have run the recommended security programs for anti-spyware/adware, etc. I would suspect spyware first in this instance.

Have you gone into Internet Explorer, Tools, Interent Options, Advanced and hit the tab to restore defaults?

sounds to me like something to do with the security settings.
does the other computer have the same security software enabled?
Try disabling your security software and try to load the websites. then turn the security back on. if it works, you know it's your security settings that are blocking them. (maybe not allowing any cookies or something like that the website demands).

*I have reset to 'default' in Internet Options.
*I have run 3 different spyware programs--CounterSpy, AdAware SE, and SpyBot S&D.
*I have tried disabling the 'real-time' CounterSpy software.
*I have tried even disabling the entire Norton Internet Security 2005 suite.
*I even tried adding the 2 sites I cannot access to the 'trusted zone' in Internet Options---all of this to no avail.

Something (simple, but elusive maybe?) is blocking these 2 sites from access, and coincidentally these are two sites used literaly daily on this computer. Every other site I try whether by typing in the address bar or reach by clicking on a link comes up just fine!

I just can't imagine what could cause this.

Did you look in the restricted sites list in the security tab in internet options? I had my internet services home page end up there for some reason----no idea how or why--but removed it from the restricted sites list and works fine now.

Thank you for the post*...

I have been in there also 'jayb', and what you mention is all 'clear'.
I cannot, for the life of me figure out why these two(2) sites cannot be accessed from my wifes computer, but works from mine, a few rooms away. Shes's on wireless...
She now has to come to 'my' office in the house to get to her site.(PartyLite.com), as she is a consultant for the company.
Strange thing is this: she can get the the PartyLite.com web site, but when she tries to 'logon' -- "page cannot be displayed"...!

Its sure a bummer--love to hear any suggestions, as I'm ready to just buy her another PC 'tower' and give up. Not gonna 'nuke and pave' .... rather replace...but what a shame...

Help??

Bruce & Jeanna--with much thanks for the help and replies*

Have you deleted the temporary internet files? Have you checked the hosts file? (HijackThis has a simple hosts file viewer/editor)

I have cleaned the temp internet files ( FYI...I use "CCLEANER", a nice little free utility for cleaning alot of junk files from your system, so her computer is always very 'clean').

We have tried Opera and Netscape, and have found out that the site is supported only by IE, and version 5.01 or higher.

This is one of the strangest problems with a computer I've come across!

If this is an issue with accessing secure websites only, try this:

1. From the Start menu, choose Run. The Run window will appear.
2. In the Open field, type cmd and click the OK button. A black window where you can type commands will appear.
3.Type the following:

Note: Press the Enter key after each line. Click OK when you receive the message DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded.
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

4. Type exit and press the Enter key. The window will close.
5. Attempt to connect and view a secure Web site.
