power settings
I am running win xp and have had my power setting set to turn off monitor after 1 hour and turn off hard disks after 1 hour and standby never. Now all of a sudden my monitor will not turn off and it seems the screen saver that I have set to 6 mins will come on at the turn off monitor time. Using the same monitor havn't made any changes and If I reset the setting it still will not turn off the monitor. Anybody have any ideas whats going on!
Thanks Paul A |

actually screen savers and power settings are useless items to run on a desktop system, try setting all the power setting to never and turn off the screen saver , then see if it will work normal.
screen savers are only for enterainment and power settings are for laptops. |

I disagree
you say "try setting all the power setting to never and turn off the screen saver"
the only problem I am having is with these setting, so yeah If I don't use them I guess I won't have a problem with them!! I keep my desk top on 24/7 so I think the power setting are useful. I don't use stand by and I only use it to power down the monitor and turn the hard drive off. I use my computer at times with 2,3,4 and some times 8-9 hours in between. With all the anti-virus and security needed these days I am not going to be shouting down and starting up all thr time and screen saver will certainly prevent screen burnin!

there is no such thing as screen burn sence the monochrome monitors were replaced wirh color monitors,
there is no reason to have the hard drives turn off as it is beter to leave them running, and your not trying to conserve the battery power. just leave it all running and it will be better for you in the long run. if you want, you can have the monitor turn off, but that is about all you realy want to do. |
