Real Mode System Memory Allocation Failed
Cannot boot windows because I get the following:
While initializing device IOS Error: real mode system memory allocation failed. Just prior to this, I was installing Norton Antivirus and was connected to internet to complete activation. It activated and then froze up. Powered off and then could not boot without getting the above error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running Win98 SE. At what point of the boot up are you getting that error message?
Can you boot into Safe Mode? What are your system specs? Do you have spare RAM you can swap in to test with? Cricket

So, it's booting up to the point that Norton's is loading? And you can't uninstall Norton's? Have you gone to the Symantec web site and checked their Knowledge Base to see if they have a fix? Or at least instructions on how to uninstall it?

Norton will not uninstall in safe mode because it requires the Windows Installer to be running. Boot to "command prompt only", run SCANREG/RESTORE, restore a registry from a date before you tried to install Norton. This should let you get into normal mode, but you still won't be able to uninstall Norton. Then visit Symantec's site for manual uninstall instructions for your version of Norton.
