Trying to install windows XP onto my SATA hard drive. Copied the drivers from the mobo CD and pressed F6, this installed the driver fine. My hard disk formats and partitions fine, so setup copies the files required. When the computer reboots, I remove the Floppy with the drivers and the windows CD, expecting to continue the installation process, but it just tries to reboot from the CD again. I have tried leaving the CD at this point but it just takes me back to the start of the installation process. I've tried changing the boot order of drives in BIOS at this point too, but it still insists on trying to boot from CD. IS my SATA HD not being recognised, or have I got it plugged into the wrong connector on the mobo? Is there something else I need to do in BIOS?
Any help greatfully appreciated

Don't remove the CD on the reboot. It needs the XP cd in the drive to finish the XP installation. When you get the "press any key to boot from CD..." AFTER the reboot, don't touch anything just let it boot from the hard drive with the XP CD in.

I've tried leaving the CD in while it reboots, but instead of going to the press any key to boot from cd screen, it continues to boot from the CD drive and restarts the windows installation process, without me pressing anything.

Ok, check in your bios under the boot order. Make sure your SATA drive is listed as the first hdd option. It's not seeing it as a boot device by the sound of it.

Checked the BIOS and all it says under the Hard Disk boot priority menu is:
1. Bootable add-in cards. So it appears the drive is being recognised by the windows setup process, but It's not being recognised by BIOS? My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9 HD is Western Digital WD2000JD 200GB Serial ATA150 7200rpm 8mb Cache- OEM Cable is connected to the S_ATA1_SB socket, is this correct? |

I just downloaded your manual to check. Take a look at the instructions on page 2,3,&4 on how to set up your drive as a boot device in a non-raid configuration. Here's a link to what I'm looking at.

So the SATA drive should automatically be recognised in the Hard disk boot priority menu of BIOS, but it's not. Which socket should I connect the SATA cable to and I assume it's not possible to connect the cable the wrong way around?

The cable is "keyed" so you can't switch it around. Either connector on the mobo should be detected in the bios. You do have the power connected to the hdd too, right? (dumb question, I know!)
