Always "Invalid System Time" dialog upon boot-up...why?

Greetings:

I updated some scanning software (newer version) recently and upon booting-up, the process stops (just before the Win XP splash screen) and now wants me to press F1. After doing so, and getting to the screen that displays all the user accounts, I now get the "Invalid System Time" dialog box after I log-on to my account. It's like my machine can't remember the time after I set it. Not sure if the F1 and Invalid Sys Time issues are related as I don't always have to perform the F1 task.

What's with this, it's quite annoying?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice and guidance.

Would help if you could post the software you installed .. it could be the reason for it. You could try to do a system restore to see if it goes away.

Performed system restore...OK

Statica...

Thanks, I had forgotten about that available option. There happened to be a system checkpoint available the day prior to installing the upgrade to ScanWizard 5.991, which is the scanning software that comes with Microtek's 5900 scanner.

The readme file did say to install it in the OS's Safe Mode, and I attempted to do that, but am not sure I was in it (or did it correctly). It looked the same as the regular mode (no SAFE MODE words at the corners).

Anyway...thanks for your guidance.

Problem is back...

Greetings:

Although the recent restore appeared to correct this problem initially, it is back (but haven't undone the restore). Specifically, the prompt at boot-up (before the OS splash screen) for pressing F1, mentions "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded". The system date always comes-up (upon logging-in all the way) with Dec 31, 1998. The Bios is from Award.

Question: Is there anything I can check in the Bios Setup?

Thanks again for any and all advice and guidance.

Sounds like it's time to pop in a new mobo battery. Most mobos for recent years use the 2032.
