Why doesn't Windows 2000 have msconfig
Hello. I know you can add msconfig to Windows 2000 but I have always wondered why Microsoft did not include msconfig in Windows 2000. Isn't this an important utility, as it doesn't take long for software applications to keep adding things in your startup. I try to pay attention to installing something but, it seems, this startup items just slowly creep in there anyway. Just a curosity. I have tried to google the item and never could find anything on the topic. Obviously it's inclusion in WinXP , they realized it is needed. But none of the service packs for windows 2000 puts it back in.

Could've been a mistake or because Win2k was probably not designed to be a general purpose home user computer because when Win2k was released there was a "home use" OS out in Win98 & Win ME. Either way, msconfig simply bundles together the startup services, you still can look up things from other services and utilities.

Microsoft rolled out the MMC with Windows 2000. The msconfig utility app seemed redundant and as Statica implies Win2K was deemed a business OS and superior to Win NT 4.0.
