How do I disable autorun?

Ok, here's what I want to do: You know whenever you pop in a PC game on CD (or DVD), then the CD brings up a splash screen with stuff in it, depending on what the game is (it might have Start and Install and Upgrade and stuff)? I want to disable that.

Please not that I am not talking about the XP thing that pops up asking what you want to do. That is also a pain in the butt, but at least I know how to disable it.

I tried going into the registry and disabling autorun there, but, that is just the same thing as disabling autorun through explorer>Drive properties>autorun.

If you have XP, under the autoplay tab in the drive properties, you have several different options for each type of media content. If you select "take no action" then nothing should happen.

Maybe you need to read my original post a bit more carefully.

Easy there Baskervore. That's close to flaming and we don't do that here. Take a deep breath and use a little more tact please.

You can try the tips here

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/xp_tips.html

and here

http://www.pcbuyersguide.com/softwar...inXP-tips.html

neither of which I've tried. Also, disabling autorun can play havoc on other system functions and give problems with CD and DVD burners.

Just hold down the shift key when you insert the CD and it won`t autorun.

Thanks for those tips there.

And sorry for being a little cold earlier...I guess I should have added a "lol" or two in there.
