Battery icon on laptop not appearing in taskbar.

Hey,

I finally bought a laptop but am now having problems with my battery / ac cord icon showing up in my taskbar. It was showing up for the first two days, but it refuses to appear on bootup. I went into the control panel then to power consumption and advanced and found the option to make it appear in the taskbar or not and it is checked. If I uncheck it, click apply, recheck it, then click apply again then it will appear in the taskbar, but after rebooting it is no longer there. What is going on here?

I am running Windows XP Home. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Send a message via MSN to doctorgonzo
Are you sure it just isn't being hidden as an "inactive" icon?

Nope, it's not. There's no arrow, it's just one solid taskbar.

What laptop is it? Some laptops have proprietary power utilities that insist on showing up.

It is a Compaq 2312US - I believe they only sell this specific model at Circuit City - where I got it.

The last two times I've booted it up the battery / power ac icon has been appearing and staying in the taskbar. This is after I got the zonealarm icon to come back and stay in the taskbar as well - I was having the same problem with it.
