HELP!!! My videos play all wierd with wierd colors!!!

Hello all,

Well the problem is, I installed windows service pack 2. After that, all my video files played wierd.

By wierd, i mean the colors are all lighter and not right. You can still see the picture, but just the colors are messed up. The audio works fine as far as I can tell.

I thought it was just the new Windows Media Player, so I got the newest version and tried to look for some current codecs, but it didnt work.

I even downloaded a newer version of Divx player, but it still plays wierd.

The thing is, some videos play fine, with the colors all right, but those are few and far between. Most of my videos, no matter what format, runs wierd.

Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot!!

Before running a Divx file try this - Start > Run > divxsm.exe /unregister and see if it works. You can always revert back to the original settings by running START > RUN divxsm.exe /register.

My friend says he had this problem too, but he fixed it by messing with his video card settings and updating it's drivers. I updated my drivers, but it's still messed.

Any sugesstions on which settings to change?

Ok, I got it to work, but I had to lower my hardware acceleration to do so.

Is there a problem with this?

Will i experience poor graphics when I play games?

Is there another way to fix the problem?

Thanks for the help!

I've had this problem. You do not have to lower your hardware accerleration. Go into Windows Media Player, and go to Tools -> Options. Click on the performance tab. Click on advanced. Uncheck the box next to "use high quality mode". That should fix it.
