What is the easiest way to uninstall WinXP Pro SP2?
Simple terms please
I tried booting from disk and it wanted to install to partition without deleting the other Windows. |

the easist way is to do a restore point to a date before the sp2 was installed.

just go into add and remove programs on the top there is a box that says "show updates" make sure its ticked scroll down to the bottom and it should be there, just uninstall it. If the PC came pre installed with SP2 (you got it from Dell for example or installed off a CD which has SP2 slipstreamed) in which case you would need to repair the install with a CD slipstreamed with SP1.

The pc came with WinXP Home. However I acquired WinXP Pro and installed it a while back. When I finally got internet the automatic update installed SP2. I'm wanting to wipe everything on my C drive and start with fresh install. I've got another board saying that if during installation I did not create backup files then I'm screwed. And another post said to do format c: in dos prompt. Although, I'm not sure if that person was serious or not. Basically the computer is running like crap and I don't mind wiping everything out and starting over. All my good stuff is on another harddrive so that won't be affected. I've installed anti-virus software and several spam blockers but everything still runs poorly. There's something in the computer somewhere doing it.

If you're looking to reformat and do a fresh install, just boot from your XP Pro CD and Delete the exisiting partition(s) before doing the fresh installation. I would recommend reinstalling SP2 also. It has many security updates that protect your system.

i usually format windows every 6 months or so, i guess a format and re-install would be your best bet i agree too, re-install sp2 when you can.

Every 6 months. If you keep your system safe and well secured you don't need to do that. Just update and patch your OS regularly. But if its already buggy REFORMAT/REINSTALL is the best thing.

I dont think XP is an OS that needs frequent reinstalls, provided you dont do something like download software from random sources or are virus prone. However, if you are in the habit of doing frequent reinstalls for whatever reason, I would suggest that you strongly consider slipstreaming SP2 into your XP. I've found that loading XP SP2 directly is a lot stabler than upgrading XP to whatever service pack.
