kicked off internet after 20 min

I have windows xp home edition hooked up to the dsl ethernet without a router. Windows will kick me off of the internet after 20 to 30 minutes. It will say "there is an IP conflict with another computer on the network". What is the problem. When I boot up my computer it takes a long time and acts like it is trying to connect to some kind of network. But i can bypass it by pressing shift+tab and can choose to just boot local drives but it will still kick me off. Does anyone know how to fix this??

I've had this issue in the past with my router and could be the same with your dsl modem if it has several ports. Your computer needs to be in port 1. I uplugged my main computer once and the other was in the 2nd port which caused then same error your getting.

Send a message via AIM to rspassey Send a message via MSN to rspassey
you can try to release and renew your ip, that might work.

Try as ryan mentioned. Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /release and shortly after that type ipconfig /renew
