Anyone,
I recently purchased XP Home OEM (for distribution with new pc only) and cannot get it activated. When attempting to, I get an 'Unauthorized Key' error and I'm prompted to enter it in again. Of course it hasn't worked. I called the toll-free number shown, went throught the steps the automated system requested and in the end was told to contact the pc manufacturer. Since I'm installing the OS on a pc I already own this is not possible. I had XP Pro on the hard drive prior (but wiped the drive before the Home install) so I'm not sure if this is causing the problem. Will I be able to activate XP if I install it on a new hard drive? I'm not sure what my options are the get this working...all suggestions would be gladly appreciated. Thanks! |

Firstly, It isn't because of the previous XP Pro on your hard drive that it isn't getting activated.
What OEM version is it? Is it something like a Dell (or Toshiba or something) CD? If that is the case, you will not be able to use on a system other than the one it came with. At this stage, your best bet would be to contact the people that sold you this version of XP Home and ask them what's going on. Personally, I'd be looking for a replacement. |
