Help with folders

How do I delete folders that I created in XP. I have a few items from time to time that I create a folder for, But when I no longer need it, I am told that I don't have access to delete it. I checked properties and they list them as read only, but I can't seem to change that. I am a listed administrator with full privelidges. I also checked the folder options in control panel, but didn't see anything there that looks like it would help. I can delete the entire contents of the folder, but I can't delete the folder itself.
